Reaching out globally
Global education has significantly increased in importance and prominence in education. Global education promotes numerous skills such as; the use of technology to communicate and create knowledge, an understanding of world geography and politics, appreciation of the differences among people, understanding of strong work ethic for success, and the ability to be flexible and able to deal with ambiguity. If we want our students to meet international standards then they must be successful at these skills. Students use new technologies and twenty-first century skills to learn and interact with the world around them. The importance of understanding other cultures has been placed upon our students.
I plan to continue my research as I study abroad this summer in Honduras and as I take ECI 523: Theory and Research in Global Learning. Studying abroad in Honduras will be my first time leaving the country, I am beyond excited about this amazing opportunity. I will have the chance to study the education system there and hopefully begin to understand where their motivation comes from.
2012 CONFERENCE GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING
“Breaking Barriers and Joining Efforts for
the Promotion of Health, Education and Culture”
During my time in Honduras I will be speaking at the 2012 Conference of Guidance and Counseling. The purpose of this conference is to create opportunities for reflection, learning and exchange experiences that encourage the discussion of current and innovating topics, as well as the creation of support networks among professionals in the counseling field at the regional, national and international levels. My proposal Motivation and Learning through Technology will connect to the education strand. It will promote some innovated initiatives that can be used in the counseling field. I will be talking about and showing different ways technology can be used in the classroom to help increase student motivation. Some of the different technology options will create opportunities for cultural exchange and networking.
