ECI 546: New Literacies and Media allowed me to explore numerous technologies and media sources that can be applied to literacy instruction. This course taught me how to effectively incorporate all of these technologies into any literacy curriculum.

Throughout the course we studied different web 2.0 tools. My web 2.0 tool was Skitch, which is a quick and easy way to capture images and screen shots and share them on the internet. You simply download the free application and it is saved to your desktop to use whenever. Not only can you take pictures but you can edit them with features such as; text, drawing, cropping and re-sizing.
The use of web 2.0 tools increases motivation
Students were excited about the web 2.0 tools, the tools provided them with new ways to express their ideas. The tools gave students a purpose for learning and way to show what they learned.
Video book trailers
For our PBI (Project Based Inquiry) we were required to develop a PBI that would advance us from our "comfort level" regarding technology integration. We had to implement an innovative lesson supporting our compelling question using technology. I chose to do my project on how to use videos created by the students to increase reading motivation. Students were allowed to create video book trailers, that would be shown as a preview for that specific book. The goal was to create videos that captured the audience and made them want to read the book. The videos would be viewed by other students before making a book selection.
