Leadership
ECI 508:Teachers as Leaders made me rethink the definition of a leader. It forced me to reflect and evaluate my personal leadership traits. I realized over the course that leadership is something that is always growing, changing an improving. Leadership is very powerful, but holds many responsibilities. “Ordinary people do extraordinary things everyday.” Leadership is a way of life, it defines how you view the world around you and the choices you make. An individuals heart, beliefs and passions shine through leadership.
“I see that shared leadership for me was delegating to others, giving away to others, or sharing with others the making of important decisions- as long as the curriculum, pupil achievement, staff development, and, of course, my leadership were not much threatened.” -Barth
For my final leadership project I chose to focus on the importance of global education. This is a topic that, through the course of the NLGL program, I have become very passionate about. Global education has significantly increased in importance and prominence in education. We are constantly interpreting the world around us, constantly analyzing everything that crosses our path of sight. We draw immediate conclusions based on our experiences, our unconscious ideas have been influenced by our environment. Too often we make assumptions that are incorrect. We must be more conscious of our unconscious thoughts, especially as educators. There is more than just what meets the eye. Being open and understanding of our nations cultural uniqueness will broaden our perspectives and enable us to lead the way for our students as we prepare them for the future. As a teacher leader I plan on being an advocator for this issue. Part of leadership is acting on your passions, which is what I plan on doing!
